Varenna
Varenna is a comune (municipality) on Lake Como in the Province of Lecco in the Italian region Lombardy.

Varenna, a fishing village which dates from the eleventh century, is a jewel amongst the most important tourist destinations on Lake Como. Itwas founded by local fishermen in 769, and was later allied of the commune ofMilan. In 1126, it was destroyed by the rival commune ofComo, and later received the refugees from theIsola Comacina, who had met the same fate (1169).

The main sights are theCastello di Vezio, a small museum dedicated to theLariosaurusand a sea reptile from theMiddle Triassicperiod. Across the lake in theprovince of Comoare:Bellagio,GrianteandMenaggio.It is served by a station on theTirano–Lecco railway.
