The Sunshine Coast (population 312,908 with up to an additional 50,000 in visitors and seasonal workers) is a coastal region of Australia located in South East Queensland, north of the Queensland capital of Brisbane.

The Sunshine Coastis a coastal region and the third most populated area in theAustralianstate ofQueensland. Located 100km north of the state capitalBrisbaneinSouth East Queenslandon the Pacific Ocean coastline,it is popular for its beaches, surfing, eco-parks and nature reserves.

The area was first settled by Europeans in the 19th century with development progressing slowly until tourism became an important industry. The area has several coastal hubs atCaloundra,Kawana Waters,MaroochydoreandNoosa Heads. NambourandMalenyhave developed as primary commercial centres for the hinterland.
