Aruba—A Destination of Discovery
Relaxation may be the prevalent theme at most Caribbean islands, but in Aruba, the focus of every day is to find the joy in each moment.
Light trade winds make the average 82° temperature one of perfection. Aruba’s location south of the hurricane belt practically guarantees that the sun will shine daily on this Happy Island, which boasts the least amount of rainfall in the Caribbean.
The perfect weather makes exploring Aruba even more amazing. In this destination of discovery, the top things to do aren’t set in stone—they’re written in sand. While crashing breakers to the rugged northeast side of the island inspire awe and a sense of freedom, the northwest (leeward) coast boasts sprawling white-sand beaches with tranquil seas ideal for all types of water sports and exploring the abundant marine life and sunken shipwrecks. Popular Palm Beach is the center of the island’s nightlife, and Eagle Beach was voted #3 Beach in the World in the Tripadvisor 2025 Traveler’s Choice Awards.
Above the water, there are just as many ways to be amazed by Aruba. Hop on a Jeep or ATV to explore the desert landscape. Huge cacti, curious iguanas, and ancient boulders call to the explorer within; spinning windmills showcase the island’s Dutch heritage; and divi-divi and fofoti trees add to its unique charm. Museums, buildings, and monuments in the capital city of Oranjestad depict the country’s rich history, and colorful festivals reflect the island’s proud culture and honor its people of 40 different ethnicities. Then there’s the world-class shopping, art and music, dining, casinos, nightclubs, and resorts, including brand-new properties like JOIA Aruba by Iberostar and Secrets® Baby Beach Aruba, near the charming town of San Nicolas. This Happy Island truly has it all.
The Aruba Promise

You may have already read a lot about sustainable tourism, but Aruba is putting it to practice. Protecting our planet and has become a major focus in our industry. Aruba is doing its part by banning plastic bags, utensils, confetti, and more, along with many other efforts to preserve the island’s natural beauty, wildlife, and marine life.
In turn, visitors of all walks of life are welcomed with open arms, and kindly encouraged to agree to the Aruba Promise. In short, it means respecting the Aruban people and their customs, and being a responsible guest—embracing a slow pace and being mindful of your footprint on the island so that Aruba can remain a happy place for generations to come. Guidelines of the Aruba Promise include:
- Protect Aruba’s natural beauty and biodiversity by admiring the plant and animal life without touching or feeding.
- Venture outside of your resort to experience the culture and support local businesses (and don’t litter).
- Use mineral-based sunscreen which may be labeled “reef safe” (active ingredient is titanium dioxide or zinc oxide).
- Do not bring or purchase single-use plastic. Fill a reusable water bottle to minimize waste and enjoy Aruba’s delicious drinking water, “Paradise on Tap”.
- Drive responsibly, not only for safety purposes but to better appreciate your surroundings.
- Save energy—don’t waste water or electricity.
Little things can make a big difference, like keeping the air in your hotel room at a comfortable 69°; turning off the lights and TV when leaving; and having bed linens changed only as needed and upon request.
The Aruba Effect—Taking Home Happiness
