Équateur(Frenchfor "Equator") was one of the elevenprovincesof theDemocratic Republic of the Congobetween 1966 and 2015, when it was split into the new, smallerÉquateurprovince, as well as theTshuapa,Mongala,Nord-UbangiandSud-Ubangiprovinces.
Located in the north of the country, the province bordered theRepublic of the Congoto the west, theCentral African Republicto the north, to the east theOrientaleprovince, and to the south theKasai-Oriental,Kasai-Occidentaland Bandunduprovinces.
